While some of the apps do serve marketing purposes (ie, food fight throwing ABC brand cookies or XYZ brand Cola to the end user, it mostly ends up as clutter. I think I have a grand total of 4 applications installed, my profile page is clean enough that people can access my info quickly and easily. It's all about making it easy to serve the core purpose of Facebook, to communicate with friends. Bloat is a problem with every application, every site, the question is, is a closed platform with no applications better than one full of "useless" applications that clutter up a profile. Exactly. I totally agree about the apps, I loved how Facebook didn’t allow all that clutter (I hated people’s backgrounds and music additions to MySpace…), but now these ridiculous applications are annoying me. Do we really need “foodfights” and “virtual fishtanks”?
